Join us at The Princess Original Cinema for a screening of Jennifer's Body
A cult classic that blends horror, dark comedy, and queer subtext, Jennifer’s Body flips the script on the “male gaze” and teen horror tropes. Megan Fox stars as Jennifer, a high school cheerleader who becomes possessed and starts feeding on her male classmates - while her best friend Needy (Amanda Seyfried) tries to stop her. Beneath the gore and camp, the film explores themes of female friendship, trauma, and queer desire, making it a standout in feminist and LGBTQ+ film circles. Misunderstood at its release, Jennifer’s Body has since been reclaimed as a bold, subversive gem that’s perfect for a Rainbow Film Club screening.
The film will be introduced by Kevin Nixon who is a sociocultural anthropologist whose research explores the intersections of gender, sexuality, and the cultural politics of queer performance, with a focus on drag as a site of sociopolitical and affective transformation. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in sociocultural anthropology and sexual diversity studies, where his doctoral research examined how drag queens in Toronto navigate questions of identity, desire, and representation in the context of queer nightlife. Kevin is a sessional instructor at the University of Toronto, teaching in both the Department of Anthropology and the Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies. His work considers how performance operates as a site of both pleasure and critique, with particular attention to how drag engages questions of Canadian identity, citizenship, and multiculturalism. Through this lens, he examines how drag performers negotiate belonging and difference within broader structures of power.

Rainbow Film Club normally runs on the first Monday of each month at The Princess Original at 7:00 p.m. For September, we are meeting on the second Monday to avoid Labour Day. The films usually feature a brief introduction by a local expert or film enthusiast who will provide some background and context for the films. Please note that The Princess Original cinema is only accessible via stairs.
You do not need to RSVP to attend the movie, but if you do, we will have people waiting out front of the theatre about 25 minutes before screening if you want people to sit with. This should give people time to grab concessions and find seats! We have set the RSVP time at 5:00 pm, the day of the show, so we can finalize the list of who to look for.

Coordinators of the Rainbow Film Club may not have screened films in advance and may be viewing the films for the first time along with the audience. We encourage those considering attending film screenings to conduct their own independent research into the film to inform their decision whether to attend.
