‘Rainbow Bridge’ brings together four Chinese-language short films that authentically portray the subtle tensions faced by the LGBTQ+ community in their explorations of gender identity and emotional relationships. Rather than focusing on explicit conflicts, these films turn the lens towards the invisible pressures embedded within societal structures: nuanced cultural biases, familial indifference, and personal struggles with self-identity. Drawing on Judith Butler’s concept of “precarity,” these films ask whether vulnerability is a precursor to systemic dysfunction or a condition exposed by the system’s own failures. This collection invites viewers to re-evaluate the overlooked experiences and psychological burdens of queer individuals within mainstream society, fostering empathy and resonance with diverse identities.
