About this Event

Come and join us to find out more about our Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology (Rail) course taking place in the Birmingham. Course start date 8th September 2022.

This is a 21 week course available to anyone aged 19+. This course is designed for those who wish to work as a track maintenance operative, maintaining railway tracks and infrastructure.

You will gain knowledge of;

  • Railway civil engineering
  • Track engineering, construction and maintenance (includes some practical work experience on real track lines)
  • Overhead Line Equipment Construction
  • Railway Signalling Systems
  • Engineering and Environmental Health and Safety
  • Engineering Organisational Efficiency and Improvement

On completion of the Diploma you will need to undertake a PTS medical along with a drugs and alcohol test to comply with Railway legislations and their zero-tolerance policy. With a clear medical we then offer you a FREE PTS (Personal Track Safety).

On the successful completion of the PTS you can then complete the TIC (Track Induction Course) as well as FREE Small Tools and OLEC1 training. This will allow you to work on or near any line on Network Rail’s infrastructure. The College will fund all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needed for the course.

You will need a Level 1 or Grade 4 (D) in maths & English. However, the College provides an initial assessment to determine your level.

Please note:

You must be committed to work hard in all weathers and be fit enough to be able to achieve the standards required for this manual job. Sessions are taught by industry experts with links to Railway Engineering companies. You will need access to a laptop to complete the written assessments. This course takes place once a week with both online and face to face sessions as well as practical sessions which will take place at a track, therefore you need to be available from 9am - 4pm each week.

If you live in the West Yorkshire area, this course may be FREE to you through the Government's National Skills Funding Offer or you may be able to apply for an Adult Learner Loan to fund the course.

Book your place on our next information and Guidance session to find out more.
