Eastleigh & District Local History Society is holding a Working Group session on Monday 13 October at 7.30pm. All welcome.
For this session, we will be linking in with the national Railway 200 celebrations. While Eastleigh itself came later, the town was borne of the railway, and it feels important for us to reflect on this heritage.
The working group session is an opportunity to:
* Explore photos, maps, history papers and other materials connected to the railway and Eastleigh.
* Share memories, family stories, or artefacts connected with the railway.
* Work in small groups to discuss themes such as Eastleigh’s growth, railway workers’ lives and personal recollections.
* Brainstorm ideas for how the Society might contribute to Railway 200 celebrations.
Please bring along any items, documents, or memories you’d like to share. A few well-chosen artefacts will help spark discussion and bring our town’s railway story to life.
It is free entry for members. Non members are asked to contribute £2. If you would like to become a member, for £5 per year, please speak to one of the committee at the event.
Information on image: Built in Eastleigh in 1926, no 30850 'Lord Nelson' was designed by the Southern Railway's Chief Civil Engineer. R.E.L. Maunsell. It was listed for museum status at the end of steam and received a major overhaul in Eastleigh in 1997. After a period running again on the main line, it moved to the 'Watercress Line' in 2009.
