A guided hike and historical tour of the ghost town of Saunders and the rail trail. Take a walk back in time....
About this Event
If you love ghost towns, cool bridges and Alberta history- This tour is for you! This is a beginner guided hike and historical tour. We will be parking at the old townsite of Saunders. There are 2 parts to this tour. First we will be exploring a few short trails around the ghost town to some historical points of interest. Taking a walk back in time to discover Saunders, your guide will tell the stories of this old mining town and those that lived there. A maze of trails takes us to a stunning view point, and old graveyard, Big John's spring and the former location of some of the cabins. We will come back to the parking lot and connect with the rail trail. A very flat and wide-2.5km following the rail trail takes us to the stunning Taunton/Fortner Trestle bridge. Built on the original foundation this bridge has been completly redone to allow for bikes, quads and hikers to follow the rail trail from Rocky Mountian House to Nordegg. Picnic tables and benches on the bridge is a great place for lunch and photos before we head back. Altogether our day will be approx 9km with just a few rolling hills. No big climbs. Very possible for a beginner hiker.

- Your guide will also bring bear safety information, bear spray and first aid kit.
Your hiking guide's priority is having a safe, fun and informative tour that connects you more to where you are visiting. Please note that you must have sturdy footwear and we recommend dressing in layers to adapt to constant weather changes A full gear list will be supplied to all hikers 7-10 days prior to the event.

Refund Policy: Refunds or exchanges for hikes will only be issued if requested up to 14 days prior to the purchased hike date. Refunds or exchanges will not be issued if requested after this timeframe.
Emergency Policy: It is our policy to have emergency and medical information on each hiker that is logged with a check in person . Each hiker must ensure that all their medical information and emergency contact information is correct and up to date for each hike.

- You will be with a certified guide.
- All parks regulations will be followed including leave no trace principals.
- Trails are subject to change, if closed.
- Your guide has done the trail before and knows the way
