Fancy lending a hand to maintain the species-rich grassland habitat at our Slievenacloy Nature Reserve? Join our Nature Reserves Team to help remove ragwort from this Area of Special Scientific Interest. The species-rich grassland at Slievenacloy Nature Reserve is home to an impressive array of flowering plants in summer, which in turn supports an incredible variety of insects and bird life. This unique site needs to be managed sensitively and one of the best ways of doing this is grazing with livestock.
Ragwort can be toxic to livestock if they eat enough, so they avoid it where they can. As a result, a large area can become poorly grazed if the ragwort is allowed to dominate. We pull as much ragwort as we can each year to protect this precious habitat. Afterwards, you will be treated to a short guided walk of this nature reserve and its incredible wildlife.
