Come to hear Dr Carol Freeman talk about the Ragged School. There is a little garden that celebrates the lives of the poor children of Wapping, who attended the Lower Collins Street Ragged School that stood there from 1856 to 1914.
Carol will talk about the history and environment of the area before and after European arrival and will relate fascinating stories from newspaper reports and school records that show how the Ragged School enhanced the lives of the children who attended. She will She will also discuss the benefit of green spaces to inner city environments.
Dr Carol Freeman is an Adjunct Researcher at the University of Tasmania, who focusses on interdisciplinary research and writing in the areas of history, cultural studies and environmental science.
