This free workshop invites participants to celebrate First Nations art through exploration of textile-based artworks featured in Material Cause: Art x Textiles in Bendigo Art Gallery’s Collection. The session focuses on the work of Kalkadoon-Kuku Yalanji artist Kim Ah Sam, whose practice combines cultural knowledge with contemporary approaches to material and form.Participants will be introduced to raffia as a sculptural medium, discovering how wrapping techniques and playful experimentation can be used to transform natural and recycled fibres into striking artworks. Each participant will create their own unique piece inspired by their time in the exhibition.
Designed for children and teens aged 7–15, this workshop encourages creativity, cultural appreciation, and hands-on making in a relaxed and supportive environment.
