About this Event
Environmental justice is about more than recycling bins and green buildings—it’s about who bears the burden of pollution, climate impacts, and environmental hazards, and who gets access to clean air, safe water, and healthy neighborhoods. This workshop will introduce participants to the core principles of environmental and climate justice, including how environmental racism has shaped communities here in the Kansas City metro area.
Through stories, data, and discussion, we’ll explore local examples of environmental inequities, and connect them to broader national trends. Participants will then develop a personalized action plan—practical steps for deepening their engagement and helping to build a more just and sustainable Johnson County for all.
Objectives:
- Define what environmental and climate justice mean.
- Highlight how environmental racism and inequities show up in the KC metro region.
- Equip participants with a personalized action plan for meaningful engagement.
Workshop presented by Jasmin Moore, AICP.
