About this Event

About Rachma Lim:
Rachma Lim hails from North Sumatra, Indonesia, a melting pot of diverse arts and musical talents, the Medan born Rachma Lim arrived in Singapore as a teenager and an exuberant budding jazz pianist, performed extensively since graduating from Lasalle school of contemporary music in 2010. She discovered her niche in bridging the east and the west, despite her deep vocation in jazz studies, she would not neglect her own Chinese Indonesian heritage. She was often caught in action collaborating with Indian jazz fusion band, Raghajazz, Orchestra Melayu Singapura (OMS), QI & Teng Ensemble for local musical events and festivals.
Further raising the bar as challenge to expand her horizon. Rachma earned her Master’s Degree in music at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, New York City in 2017. There, she came under the pupillage of prominent educators and musicians such as Professor Michael Phillip Mossman, Professor Denise Mackrel, composer and arranger who was a member of the Count Basie Orchestra and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. As a revered artist, Rachma went on to share the stage with some of the country’s finest jazz improvisers namely, 2-time Grammy award winner Mark Gross, Tim Armacost, Charenee Wade, Lea Pearson through which an immeasurable wealth of experience and exposure was harnessed.
Upon returning to Singapore, she managed to feature her very own quintet performing her original works in one of the most innovative venues in the heart of Brooklyn, the Shapeshifter Lab, a space owned by John Coltrane’s associated bass player and his son Matthew Garrison.
In her travels across Europe, Rachma teamed up with musicians finally stopping over in London with a unanimous goal to record at the reputable Abbey Roads Studios, where her 2nd EP, “Ricominciare - begin again” was born. Her latest single release in March 2022 “Wishing Well” is one not to be missed!
Rachma hopes to be an integral part of the jazz community here in Singapore, setting her footprints through her personal endeavour to promulgate and elevate the standard of jazz as a universal language in the industry.

About NyaLi:
NyaLi is known simply as Enya to family and friends offstage - the Singaporean songbird credits classic Disney animations for her earliest music induction.
A student of Yamaha piano schooling from a young age, NyaLi sang as soon as she talked ... she still hasn't quite stopped doing either. She first trilled in choirs, and later experimented with singing in smaller groups and various pop styles. Great American Songbook jazz was a blissful accidental discovery as she exited her teens.
NyaLi feels blessed to have been able to pursue passion after graduating her first university degree in Singapore: she attended and attained her BMus. from Berklee College of Music (2016), graduating magna cum laude with a major in Vocal Performance/ minor in Music Technology. A late bloomer in songwriting, NyaLi began finishing songs that she never knew existed within while enrolled in a lyric writing class at Berklee - she had to turn in completed assignments after all.
The NyaLi sound and writing style is personable, whimsical, and shares first-hand ruminations on her observations of places, humanity, and love: she believes that the line between personal and universal human experience is in fact a fine one.
Her current sound bears the influence of her childhood music heroes - Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Simon and Garfunkel, and the Carpenters, to name few. She has also been likened to a cross between Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga, and Erykah Badu - quite confusing, but NyaLi's definitely not complaining!
