The Statuary Presents: Rachel Eckroth and John Hadfield w/Special Guest Donny McCaslin
The Statuary is thrilled to present, Rachel Eckroth and John Hadfield, one of the most creative and inspiring duos in jazz today. As side-musicians both have shared the stage with an impressive list of diverse artists; St. Vincent, Rufus Wainwright, KT Tunstall, Chris Botti, the Saturday Night Live Band on NBC, The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Yo-Yo Ma, Abel Selaocoe and the Seattle Symphony, and the Silk Road Ensemble. They will be joined by the acclaimed saxophonist from David Bowie’s final band, Donny McCaslin. Join us for a musical journey you have not experienced before.
About the Artist:
Improvisation is the binding element and motivation behind this collaborative project of pianist Rachel Eckroth and drummer John Hadfield. This duo of longtime musical colleagues formed in 2023 to highlight new compositions and their virtuosic instrumental skills. With the premise of keeping things spontaneous and a goal of limitless exploration, the compositions are structured to provide space for an unfiltered stream of consciousness type of improvisation. In different settings, the instrumentation will vary from analog synthesizers and drum loops for galleries and smaller stages to Grand piano and eclectic percussion in a concert hall. Recent audiences have been excited and inspired by the duo’s ability to make each song its own adventure, leaving no room for forgettable pieces. The two have individually had exceptional careers as both leaders and sidemen. With a resume of work with Yo-Yo Ma to Rufus Wainwright to Carnegie Hall to Glastonbury Festival, television appearances and Grammy wins and nominations, it’s no secret that Eckroth and Hadfield can thrive in any setting they are presented with. It is the natural progression of things that they are welcomed as a formidable force on the world stage. 2025 will be their breakout year, with multiple tours scheduled - both USA and Europe, and a full-length album on Adhyâropa Records in February titled, “Speaking In Tongues”.
“Pianist, singer, and composer Rachel Eckroth is more than a musical chameleon. Her shapeshifting is so astonishingly dramatic that there is no upper limit to her creative identity.” – Simon Rentner, WBGO
“Hadfield delivers a fluid groove, strong yet never intrusive, punctuated by adroitly chosen accents. His skillful sound-weaving choices create the illusion of a seamless multi-percussion section.” - Modern Drummer

About "The Statuary'' - "Where the line between the band and the audience ceases to exist. Jersey City's intimate home for jazz, art, and culture." The Statuary originated in 1907 as the Jersey Statuary Company of Jersey City where the two-story house was Gino DeSanctis's, sculptor and painter, workshop. In 2007, the building was converted into an active artist live/work/present space that has since been a home for community members to celebrate artistic expression, diversity, inclusion, and love through music. The Statuary echoes the mood of the 1970s Jazz Loft scene and provides a platform for innovative and culturally significant local, regional, and national musical talent creating an ethereal atmosphere akin to the history that has shaped this one of a kind space.
This event is in partnership with https://RiverviewJazz.Org and supported by public funds from the Jersey City Arts and Culture Trust Fund.
Sincerely,
The Statuary
