New Technologies and Recent Discoveries in the Archaeology of Ancient Israel and the Southern Levant.In the last ten years, the archaeology of ancient Israel has been revolutionized by the use of new technologies to locate archaeological sites, and recover and analyze evidence from the past. This has led to remarkable discoveries about past lives and lifeways in ancient Israel and the southern Levant more broadly. Join us to learn about recent exciting finds from drone-based reconnaissance, 3D scanning and mapping, and ancient DNA analysis.
Dr. Boutin is Professor and Chair of the Department of Anthropology at Sonoma State University. She received her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. Her research focuses on bioarchaeology, the study of human remains from archaeological sites, especially from ancient Near Eastern, Gulf, and eastern Mediterranean cultures. She has conducted fieldwork in Bahrain, Turkey, Cyprus, Israel and Crete and also worked on collections at the British Museum, the Hearst Museum of Anthropology and the Badè Museum of Biblical Archaeology. Her recent projects emphasize community collaboration and stakeholder-oriented interpretation and outreach.

Come at 6:15 PM to start with Kiddush and a catered communal dinner. Or gather around a tisch at 7:00 PM for Shabbat blessings and prayers (including Kaddish), and the special evening program.
