Why Guts UK?
Says Kirsteen: So why the slightly odd reference to #YouLookTheNuts throughout this fundraising?! Well on Fathers Day 2022, only four days before my brother, Paul Narramore’s death, I was wearing my Guts running vest to go for a 5km in the Kent countryside where he and his gorgeous family live and he looked up at me and said ‘are you going for a run?’, ‘yes’ I said, ‘you look the nuts’ was his response.
Running has been my anchor through the stormy seas of the last three years. I am by no means a good runner, much more a shuffler! But according to my husband I am the most stubborn human he has ever met; there is no chance I won’t finish this, even if I have to crawl!
Many of you will know that in 2019 we lost our amazing dad to acute pancreatitis within 6 weeks of diagnosis. You may also know that in 2021 my eldest brother, aged 49, was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal bowel cancer.
During this time we, as a family, have raised over £10,000 for Guts UK. This marathon is another opportunity to support this small but mighty charity, who now feel like part of our extended family ?? In September 2021, mid brutal treatment for his cancer, Paul walked the majority of our marathon walk for Guts - that says everything about the quiet determination he showed throughout his illness. In short he showed phenomenal strength and courage. Running London will be my opportunity to cover the full distance for him, in the city he loved most in the world and where he was born.
