Quip Shed Comedy continues to host its stand-up comedy shows at The Old Cranleighan Club in Thames Ditton! And what a line-up we have for June ... the brilliant Joe Wells, Alex Kealy, host Lyle Barke, and headliner Jess Fostekew!
Joe Wells is a neurodivergent writer, comedian and podcaster. His writing career began when his first book 'Touch and Go Joe' about his experiences of OCD was published, since then he has made a name for himself as a stand up comic, writer and speaker. He has supported Frankie Boyle, Alexei Sayle, and Stephen K Amos. In 2020, Joe went viral with his stand up clip 'Joe Wells on having a non-autistic brother' which gained over 4.5 million views across Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube. Joe co-hosts the Neurodivergent Moments podcast and, in 2022, his second book, ‘Wired Differently; 30 Neurodivergent People Who You Should Know’ was published. In 2023, Joe embarked on his first solo tour selling out venues of up to 300.
Alex Kealy is a stand-up comedian who mixes smart political material with self-deprecation and incisive observations. In his first year of performing, he reached the final of the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny competition and is now a “rising star of the British stand-up scene” (The List).
He has taken five hours of stand-up to the Edinburgh Fringe, the latest being 2022’s Winner Takes All, which was received to packed rooms and critical acclaim. The Daily Telegraph's 4-star review called him "Sharply witty, almost sexily cerebral" while The List raved about his "breakneck pace with surprising turns in eloquent comic’s wonderful new hour" (★★★★) and he was featured in The Times' Top Jokes of the Edinburgh Fringe. He is now taking Winner Takes All on a national tour in March and April 2023, after a sold-out run at the Soho Theatre.
An in-demand joke writer, Alex has written for shows including Mock The Week (BBC Two), Late Night Mash (Dave), The News Quiz, and The Now Show (both BBC Radio 4), and his comedy has been listed in the top Jokes of the Edinburgh Fringe by The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Mirror, The Evening Standard, The Independent, iNews, The Scotsmanand The Huffington Post. He has, too, been tipped by The Edinburgh Evening News as one of “5 Comedians To See If You Like James Acaster”.
In radio work, Alex hosts podcast Gig Pigs with Ivo Graham, where they take fellow comedians - including Ed Gamble, Rose Matafeo, Phil Wang and Lou Sanders - to a live music gig and then talk about it. He’s also a regular at the most prestigious clubs on the British circuit, including multiple weekends at The Comedy Store in London.
Jess Fostekew is a comedian, actor and writer whose stand up show Hench was nominated for the 2019 Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show. It's now available as a stand up special on Amazon Prime and has been adapted into the BBC R4 stand up special - Sturdy Girl Club which has been commissioned for a second series.
Jess has appeared on numerous entertainment shows such as, BBC2's Live at The Apollo, QI, Richard Osman's House Of Games and many more. She is also a regular co-host of The Guilty Feminist (podcast with 60 million+ downloads) and host and creator of foodie hit and new chart-topping pod, "Hoovering" (recommended in the Guardian and The Independent). Jessica will also be featuring in season two of World's Most Dangerous Roads for Dave.
Jess has co-written and stars in 'Real Friends', a new special for Sky Shorts and has several scripted projects in development.
As an actor, she’s amassed a slew of impressive credits, including; Avoidance (with Romesh Ranganathan), Scrapper (feature), The Trouble With Maggie Cole, Cuckoo (BBC/ Netflix), Motherland, Out of Her Mind, Trigonometry and BAFTA multiple-award winning BBC drama, Three Girls. You can catch her in the feature films, Official Secrets from Gavin Hood and Greed from Michael Winterbottom.
You can also hear her regularly on BBC Radio 4 & 4 Extra on The Comedy Club, Museum of Curiosity, The News Quiz and The Podcast Radio Hour.
"A new fiercely funny strain of comedy that’s her own" The Independent
"A loud, lively and vital voice" The Evening Standard
"Wears her smarts on her sleeve, great stuff" The Guardian
