About this Event

Quip Shed Comedy is delighted to launch its bi-monthly comedy gig at Ham Polo Club in Richmond on the first Friday of every other month.

For our first show, we have an incredible line-up, featuring Michael Odewale, Janine Harouni, Josh Weller, host Lyle Barke, and our headliner Jamali Maddix!

Our opener, Michael Odewale, is taking the comedy world by storm. His debut show '#BlackBearsMatter' won Best Show at both the 2019 Leicester and Hastings Comedy Festivals and achieved critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe 2019, earning him a nomination for Best Newcomer in the Dave Edinburgh Comedy Awards. In fact, he has just filmed it for an Amazon Prime special!

His most recent TV credits include: 'BBC Presents: Stand Up For Live Comedy' (BBC One/ Three), 'Mock The Week' (BBC Two), 'The Mash Report' (BBC Two), 'Chris Ramsey’s Stand Up Central' (Comedy Central), 'The Stand Up Sketch Show (ITV1), and Comedians Solve World Problems (Comedy Central). As a writer, he has worked with Charlie Brooker on 'Attack of the Hollywood Cliches' and 'Death to 2020', both for Netflix.

Janine Harouni, is an award-winning comedian who was selected as one of The Guardian's 'Ten Comedians to Watch in 2021'. Her critically acclaimed debut Edinburgh hour ‘Stand Up with Janine Harouni (Please Remain Seated)’ was nominated for the prestigious Best Newcomer award at the Edinburgh Fringe. It sold out runs across the UK and US before being filmed as a special for Amazon Prime .

Janine stars in the new sitcom 'Buffering' on ITV2 and can be seen in the upcoming DC Comic film 'The Batman' (Warner Bros). She was also a writer and performer for ITV2's hit sketch series 'The Emily Atack Show'. Other appearances include 'The Russell Howard Hour' (Sky Max), 'The Stand Up Sketch Show' (ITV2), 'Yesterday, Today and The Day Before' (Comedy Central UK), 'Comedians Giving Lectures' (Dave), 'Pointless Celebrities' (BBC One) and 'The Now Show' (BBC Radio 4).

She's also one third of the multi-award-winning sketch trio Muriel whom Chortle have hailed as "the New Smack the Pony". Their record-breaking online videos have racked up over 100 million views and remain BBC Three's most viewed, shared, and liked sketches to date.

Josh Weller, has a high energy brand of cleverly self-deprecating stand-up which landed him on pro bills after just one year on the circuit. In addition to his live comedy work, Josh has developed a loyal fanbase for his online content, which includes sketches, live pub quizzes, professional trolling, animated stand-up comedy shorts, character work, and more. In 2020, he was included in Twitter’s Valentine’s Campaign, featured on billboards across the US and UK.

Josh recently appeared in an episode of BBC’s Life Lessons with Alfie Brown and his darkly comic graphic novel, Die Already, was published by CollegeHumor.

Our headliner, Jamali Maddix, Critically acclaimed comedian and host of Vice's 'Hate Thy Neighbour' and C4's 'Adventures in Futureland', Jamali's completely unique voice and style make him one of the most sought after comedians working today.

With an assured stage presence and considered material that comes from a sharp perspective, he already has the aura of a comic well beyond his years. His last tour sold-out shows across the globe, playing the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America.

He is a regular on the series of Nevermind the Buzzcocks for Sky and was one of the most anarchic Taskmaster contestants the show has ever seen. Alongside this he was a regular contributor for Frankie Boyle's New World Order (BBC2) and has been seen on 'Live at the Apollo' (BBC Two), '8 Out of 10 Cats' (More4), This is My House (BBC1), Dara O'Briain's 'Go 8-Bit' (Dave) as well as many others.

Jamali is now working on his first scripted project with Warp Films and has written and shot his own pilot of "Documenting Life" which will debut at festivals soon.

We cannot wait to see you there!
