“For haunting melody, rhythm that makes every part of your anatomy move, and a feeling of warmth and enthusiasm, QuinTango is downright wonderful.”– Robert Jones, Spoleto Critic, The Charleston Post and Courier
“One of Washington’s finest instrumental ensembles…”
-Eric Brace, The Washington Post
“Tonight you conquered Buenos Aires!”
-Ambassador Lino Gutiérrez, U.S. Ambassador to Argentina
After standing ovations at the White House, Kennedy Center, jazz clubs in Costa Rica, Mexico, and Buenos Aires and concert venues across three continents, QuinTango brings Argentine tango to Kerrytown Concert House in a performance featuring their own arrangements of Astor Piazzolla, Julian Plaza, and Leonard Cohen plus original music by the band’s Grammy-nominated composer Emmanuel Trifilio and Austin-based singer/songwriter Ali Cook.
The rhythm section, led by QuinTango’s Argentine bandoneon player Emmanuel Trifilio, includes bassist Ali Cook and pianist Julie Huang Tucker. The violin section is anchored by Regino Madrid, whose day job is D.C.’s National Symphony Orchestra, and rounded out by founder/violinist Joan Singer, the resident storyteller and MC. With vocals by singer/songwriter Ali Cook, these five musicians conjure a spellbinding emotional energy. Powered by passion, they channel intimacy and strength using classical chops and sharing their contagious joy. Come as a music lover, leave as a fan and friend. An evening with QuinTango is an experience that outlasts the performance itself.
