Additional Information:
European Shoe Size Chart
These are European sizing and run slightly larger. Please check your size carefully! The shoe bases come from Europe and we need 10 weeks of lead time to acquire the shoe bases) There are no refunds on shoes as these are special orders.
Additional shoe bases can be purchased but do not include needles, thread, or grommets. These items can be purchased from Tandy Leather. Grommets are 3/16” in size, and a grommet setter is available from Tandy and is also for personal use.
*Fabric Selection
Cotton quilting fabric works best, but any tightly woven fabric will also work—lightweight denim, Chambray, and washable wool blends are also a good choice. Fabrics that do not breathe are NOT recommended.!
If you need a shoe larger than a size 40. The teacher recommends you quilt fabric 18 x 23 to allow for extra length for larger sizes.
The instructor recommends that if you use a directional fabric or are fussy cutting your fabrics, you must purchase a ½ yard each. It is also recommended that large prints are NOT used.
Homework to be done BEFORE class
Make a quilt sandwich with fat quarters. Apply SF 101 to the wrong side of the exterior and to lining fat quarters. Sandwich soft and stable in the middle and quilt using 1” diagonal lines. A stitch length of 2.5mm will hold up best on the shoe. Use good quality polyester thread for wearability.
Cut binding fat quarter on the bias into 1¾” strips and sew together.
