About this Event
Have you ever wondered when the first blind person was elected to the Colorado General Assembly? Or where the blind of Colorado found work in the 1800s? These are just a few of the intriguing questions that will be answered by Peggy Chong, also known as The Blind History Lady. As an author and researcher of the history of blind people in the United States, Peggy will share stories that will challenge everything you thought you knew about blindness and its role in shaping history.
About Peggy Chong:
Peggy Chong is the author of over a dozen books highlighting the lives of "Blind Ancestors," individuals who made significant contributions to society despite the challenges they faced. Peggy also wrote the "The Way We Were" column for Dialogue Magazine and launched the Blind History Lady project in 2016.
Through her books, public speaking, and monthly emails, Peggy has brought attention to blind individuals who have quietly made a difference in the lives of today's blind and disabled communities. Her work highlights the normality and capability of blind people in history, focusing on their struggles, triumphs, and integration into society.
Peggy’s mission is to ensure the history of blind and disabled individuals is taught not only to those within these communities but also to professionals in fields that impact the disabled. By learning about the achievements of blind and disabled people throughout history, society will be more accepting and appreciative of the contributions made by individuals with disabilities.
