SCORING
The Quest to the Stonely Mountain Grand Tournament will be scored according to a combination of three factors: Tournament Points, Sportsmanship Points and Hobby Points. The total possible points that can be scored are 45. 25 tournament points, 10 sportsmanship points and 10 hobby points. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be based off this combination of factors.
Victory Points will be used as a tie-breaker in the event that two or more players score the same number of points in total. Strength of schedule will be used as a secondary tie-breaker.

Tournament Points:
• Total Victory – Win by 5 or more Victory Points and/or win and your opponent scored 0 Victory Points and/or win due to “Sudden Death.” Awards 4 Tournament Points.
• Pyrrhic Victory – Win by 1-4 Victory Points. Awards 3 Tournament Points.
• Draw – Awards 2 Tournament Points.
• Valiant Defeat – Loss by 1-4 Victory Points. Awards 1 Tournament Point.
• Crushing Defeat – Loss by 5 or more Victory Points or you scored 0 Victory Points or loss due to Sudden Death. Awards 0 Tournament Points.
In the unlikely situation where your opponent scores more Victory Points but loses as a result of “Sudden Death,” (see page 136 of the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game Rules Manual) you will instead be awarded a Pyrrhic Victory and your opponent a Valiant Defeat. Victory Points will remain unchanged.

Sportsmanship Points:
Sportsmanship Points will be awarded by your opponent at the end of each game.
• If your opponent rates the game as
“Outstanding,” you will be awarded 2 points. • If your opponent rates the game as “Good,” you will be awarded 1 point.
• If your opponent rates the game as “Poor,” you will be awarded 0 points.
As you rate your opponents and they rate you, keep in mind that the criteria for a good sportsperson are addressing rules disputes fairly, playing in a friendly, yet competitive, manner and communicating clearly
throughout the game. It is our hope that all games rate Good or higher. If your opponent goes above and beyond, please let them know with an Outstanding rating.

Hobby Points:
• Models are well assembled with few visible mold lines or broken parts - 1 point
• Models in the army have a cohesive paint/basing scheme. The models are clearly identifiable and look like part of an army. - 1 point
• Models in the army are all based (flock, gravel, texture paint, flock, etc.) - 1 point
• All models in the army are base coated (at least 3 colors) - 2 points
• All models in the army have at least one layer of shading or highlights - 1 point
• The army has a display board - 1 point • The army has an extra "wow" factor (this includes conversions, exceptional basing, extra layers of highlights or shading/blending) - Up to 3 points
AWARDS
First Place Overall, Sam Gamgee Award*, Second Place Overall, Best General**, Third Place Overall, Best Painted***, Wooden Spoon.
*Each competitor will vote for their favorite opponent. The Sam Gamgee Award will be awarded to the player who receives the most votes. Sports manship points will be used as a tie-breaker.
**Best General will be the player with the most Tournament Points who did not qualify for First, Second or Third Place overall.
***Each competitor will vote for the army they feel has the best paint job. Best Painted will be awarded to the player who receives the most votes.
Tournament organizers will determine the result in the event of a tie for the Sam Gamgee Award and Best Painted.

SCENARIOS
The Quest to the Stonely Mountain will utilize the scenario veto system. Before each round the TO will randomly select a pool from the Matched Play Guide. A pool will only be selected once for that event. Players will have about 10 minutes to review the scenario from that pool before tables are announced. Once tables are announced players will greet each other at their assigned tables and will then each roll a dice.
• The player with the lower roll will veto one of the scenarios from that round’s pool.
• The player with the higher roll will then decide which of the two remaining scenarios from the selected pool will be played.
• The players will then begin their game.

PROXIES & CONVERSIONS
Converted models are allowed so long as the following guidelines are met:
• Non-GW models are allowed. Any product line is acceptable.
• Conversions and proxies must be similar in size and aesthetics to the actual model produced by Games Workshop; if the model in question does not exist, then the model must be the height and size of similarly sized models (IE: Reavers must be the size of a Corsair).
• Weapon conversions are acceptable, but the miniature must be armed to match your army list with the primary weapon on the model. Additional wargear that has been purchased is not required. Special strikes are the primary concern.
• Warrior models can be proxied. Make sure your opponent is clear on what they represent, and this must be consistent for the whole unit type.
• Proxied models must be equipped with the same wargear of the real model unless approved by a judge. In all cases, the T.O. is the final arbiter in which conversions or proxies are acceptable.
• Heroes can be proxied if the proxied model is the same race as the real miniature.
• Apart from the primary weapon, you do not have to abide by WYSIWYG (“what you see is what you get”) for additional wargear purchased. (eg: if you purchase a spear for a model armed with a bow, you do not need to add a spear to the model). However, make sure the wargear your model is equipped with is absolutely clear to your opponent.

TIME LIMIT
Games are not to exceed the set two hour time limit. Once time expires, “dice down” will be called. No further actions should be taken other than placing any models that remain in your hand into the play area. All games end exactly where they are, even if in mid-turn.
The tournament organizers will issue 30 minute, 15 minute, 10 minute and 5 minute warnings as we approach game end.

TERRAIN RULES
• The Tournament Organizers will set up all terrain before each game begins.
• Tables will be 4' x 4'
• Players may not move or alter the terrain. • Players may not bring their own terrain to the events unless asked to by the Tournament Organizers.
• All water features are considered “Shallow Water” (see page 109 of the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game Rules Manual).
• Both players must agree before the game begins on any ambiguous terrain features (ie. if a particular feature is difficult terrain, if a terrain feature can be climbed, or if a gap is large enough for a model to fit through). Note: Terrain features that are clearly difficult, such as Woods, may not be classified as open ground.
• If any terrain features cause an undue burden or severe disadvantage to a player (such as completely inhibiting movement for certain models on the board) please contact the Tournament Organizers and the board will be adjusted to ensure fair play.
• Models may not be deployed, moved onto, or in any other way placed on terrain which is
inaccessible by the opposing player.

CODE OF CONDUCT
The Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game community is known for its friendliness and playing with a generous spirit.
We expect players to treat each other with respect and demonstrate good sportsmanship.
If you disagree on the interpretation of a rule in the game, we will have judges available to help. Feel free to call judges to the table to help resolve rules disputes or if you have a rules question. Judges will refer to the rulebook and most recent FAQs and supplements.
A judge’s decision is FINAL and overrides even official Games Workshop rulings. Judges will confer on particularly tricky rulings to deliver a unanimous ruling.
Cheating is treated with a ZERO tolerance policy. Any participant caught cheating will be immediately disqualified and banned from future tournaments.
Players and guests may not in any way attempt to assist or aid another player on a different table (i.e. kibitzing, providing tactical or strategic advice). First offenders will automatically forfeit the current round. Repeat offenders will be immediately disqualified.
All Middle-earth event organizers in North America that are part of the American Strategy Battle Alliance (ASBGA) will be notified of all reported incidents of cheating at the Quest to the Stonely Mountain Grand Tournament.

CONCEDING
In the unlikely event that a player does concede before the game has reached its natural conclusion, the conceding player earns a loss and records zero Victory Points scored.
The winning player records a victory and MAX Victory Points scored.
These rules also apply if a player quits for the following reasons:
• Refuses to continue the game
• Leaves the table for 15+ minutes
• Must leave for the rest of the match under any circumstance.
