On June 27th, join New Women Space, the Mott Haven Film Festival, & MetaDen for Queering Film: A Mini Film Festival in Rainbow Colors. Enjoy a day of films filtered through a queer lense. Meet the filmmakers and gain behind-the-scenes access through post screening talkbacks.

Queering Film is broken into two parts, hosting several films during each section.

Part I (1-3:30pm): Sliding Scale: $10-$20

1:00pm - Doors Open

Intros + Welcome

1:15 - Licorice: At opposite ends of the world’s longest licorice strand, two lovers chew their way to each other.

1:20 - Chosen Family: Chosen family, highlights the story of 5 women identified people of color who create an intentional safe space in an attempt to foster community and build their "chosen family."'

1:46 - Crave: A theatre janitor finds the courage to bring out his true self. After a moment of complete happiness, he realizes that his worst enemy is himself."

1:51 - Relics of the Afro Future: Relics of the afrofuture acts as a nonlinear portal of present relics and future possibility, linked through nature. The link between black life and nature is crucial, in this portal natural resources are not weaponized against black communities.

1:59 - LaLa's World: LaLa’s World is a short documentary around LaLa Zannell, a lead organizer in the trans community and the first trans woman of color at the white house briefing for women's history month.

2:12 - Intermission

2:23 - Some Space: For Kadieann and June, roommates and lovers who only spend time with each other, some space becomes imperative.

2:29 - What We See In The Dark: Tells the story of a tiny speck of light, born all alone in a dark universe. in search of something outside themselves, the speck overcomes great difficulties but eventually comes into a world filled with other specks, both different from and like themselves.

2:39 - Tuskegee: A historical thriller based on the true events of the tuskegee studies.

2:47 - Alone with My Demons: Stuck in quarantine, jada wants nothing more than to survive her own thoughts until she realizes that doing so means facing her demons.

3:03 - Two Bois, One Bouquet: Two trans non-binary beings explore the erotic and sweet. jewel and araya play with tension through a staggered juxtaposition of the mundane and surreal.

3:07 - Get off the Paper: With “Get Off The Paper,” Sabrina Cates inspires courage and bravery in others to safely explore their inner trauma physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

5:15 - Motherland: "Free them, freedom, free them!" The rap lyrics were written as a demand for the freedom of all political prisoners and all innocent prisoners, not just in J*il, but including those who feel/are locked into harmful, toxic situations.

5:22 - Madam Abbsova: The film explores themes of queerness, friendship, immigration, and safety. Speaking close by this film represents our friendship and my appreciation for all Abo is.

5:34 - The Origin of Hair: Speculating about the birth of rock and roll and the best curl pattern, this film explores black queer identity and self acceptance as a pathway to personal utopia.

5:38 - Ebony War Porn: In this short documentary, Camille Turner, a former marine discusses her experience with military sexual assault and her healing journey.

5:48 - Margarita Island: A modern retelling of Filipino ancestral wisdom, this film is a reminder that we must pray to our ancestors. we must leave them offerings. or there will be consequences.

5:52 - Stay Where You Are: A visual meditation about the clash between the dreams and desires for a better life and the coldhearted existence in the current climate in our globalized world with special regard to children.

6:00 - Boxing: This film examines different ways that we are put in "boxes" and how they work within a larger system to silence and oppress qtpoc, and people born in NYC.

6:06 - Cardboard Concrete: A conceptual experimental film set within the framework of a grey urban factory. It is within this context that the choreographed workers touch on the social complexities of power, suspicion, angst, personal struggles, lust and aggression.

6:24 - Intermission (Cancel: a film installation): This Super8 film documents of the choreography of an installation. the installation resided in the interior of a studio accessible to gallery visitors through a peephole in the wall.

6:35 - Cafe Kiki: Neal, Grayden and Demarcus are childhood best friends. On this evening, many years into their friendship, they gather to settle an argument, uncovering their deep familial bond and keen ability to sass one another.
