Queering Digital Storytelling
How can we enact a politics of care for queer, trans, and Two-Spirit people in narrative-driven digital storytelling? What is the role of an imagined audience in shaping the stories we tell? What’s the significance of centring diverse queer and trans experiences and audiences in storytelling and how can it disrupt dominant understandings and norms? In conversation with j wallace skelton, Evie Johnny Ruddy will share some reflections on their narrative-driven web-based and audio projects including the Queering the Queen City audio walking tour, Un/tied, Stories That Move You, and Cutting Through the Binary.

Presenter
Evie Johnny Ruddy is a trans-non-binary scholar, artist, and settler living in Treaty 4 territory. They create interactive narrative-driven web-based and locative audio experiences to disrupt dominant norms and reimagine more joyful and liberatory futures. They are a PhD Candidate in Cultural Mediations at the Institute for Comparative Studies in Literature, Art, and Culture at Carleton University, a digital and lab ethicist with the Transgender Media Lab, and a sessional instructor in Creative Technologies & Design in the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance at the University of Regina.

j wallace skelton is Assistant Professor, Queer Studies in Education at the University of Regina. j is interested in co-research with children, arts-based methods, comics in research and queer and trans thriving. j identifies as queer and trans and works to create possibilities for queer and trans resistance. j’s books in print include The Last Place You Look and Transphobia: Deal with it and be a Gender Transcender. j’s currently working on a book about Teaching and Parenting for Social Justice and an anthology for trans and gender-diverse young people.
