About this Event
Come along on Tuesday 31st August for a cute and casual speed dating/friending party at our fun fave Ching-a-Lings. You'll go on 15-20 snappy dates with 15-20 babes, drinking and talking and probably drinking some more. You can expect to be one of 40-80 people. There'll be wine, beer, cocktails and a playlist of sultry songs to get you in the mood.
We'll also have heaps of conversation cards with all the most important first date Qs like "Cottagecore or city slicker?" and "On a scale of Norman Bates to Tom Hanks, how emotionally available are you?"
Tickets are just over a dollar a date and this one is for queer people of all genders. We cater to those in their 20s and 30s, with most attendees sitting between 25 and 35. You'll be split into two groups; those who want to date women and those who want to date men, with the understanding that not everyone in each group will sit within the binary. We also make sure that there's lots of time during and after the event to mingle and chat to whoever you want!
FAQs
Will I date everyone?
Not usually, no. There will be between 40 and 80 people, however you'll only go on 15-20 dates (we've found that's about the limit before you start repeating yourself/losing your voice!) There will be time before, mid-way and after the event to chat to people that you won't date though, so please don't be shy. You don't need to be sat at a table to have a nice convo.
Do I get free drinks just for showing up?
Nah. We know some speed dating organisers bribe their guests with free drinks, but we have full confidence in the fun factor of our events, so don't feel the need for bribes. Please also keep in mind, many of these other companies charge $60+ a ticket.
I'm younger/older than your main demographic, can I still come?
Our focus is on singles in their twenties and thirties as this is our main demographic. We consciously cater to this age bracket as we reckon there just aren't that many IRL dating options for young people. If you sit outside of this age bracket you can still come, however please be aware there may not be that many people you're interested in and the number of matches you get may be impacted. If you're after something different, please don't be afraid to let us know who you are and what you're looking for and if we get enough messages we'll put on an event just for you!
I'm non-binary/trans, can I still come?
Yeah definitely! We don't tolerate transphobia, biphobia or homophobia at our events and will happily (discreetly) ask someone to leave if anything's reported to our staff or to bar staff.
What's accessibility like?
Unfortunately this particular venue does have a number of stairs. We run events all around town though, most of which are wheelchair accessible, so please keep an eye out for future events. Shoot us a message if you have any other accessibility questions too.
How much privacy will we have?
We'll have the exclusive use of the venue - no lurkers, only ticket holders!
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
Yep. If you can let us know of any name changes prior to the event it's always appreciated.
What's the refund policy? What if I'm waiting on a COVID-19 test?
Typically, to get a refund, you must let us know at least 7 days prior to the event date. However, if you are displaying symptoms of COVID-19 or awaiting test results, message us and we'll sort you out. The nature of the event means we're pretty reliant on numbers and no-shows can have a big impact, so please be conscious of this and give us as much notice as possible so we have time to replace you. We won't be able to offer you a refund if you contact us after the event.
