Queer Moves | Queer Sounds - Free Workshops

Drag artist Taxi Rank is hosting three days of workshops on:

SIMULTANEOUS MOVEMENT AND SOUND

(within the same performer).

Three Daily Workshops:

Mon 24 - Wed 26 July 2023

13:30-15:00 each day.

These workshops will explore approaches to combining movement and sound within individual performers, as well as elements of drag and queer theory in performance practice.

These workshops are continual so you will be booking for all 3 days. The workshops will be conducted in English.

There will be a sharing performance on the last day when you can share your work in progress and invite guests to watch. Taxi Rank and collaborator Oren Lazovski will also share their own work in progress from a week of intensive rehearsals using this same performance practice.

WORKSHOPS

You will learn:

• the intersections of movement and sound in performance

• movement material while simultaneously creating sound

• sound material while simultaneously moving

• approaches to learning combined movement and sound

• how queer theory and drag elements apply to this performance practice

Suitable for:

Any performing artists who use sound or movement (or both) in their performance practice, who are willing to learn more about combining art forms and/or queer performance.

You will be encouraged to:

• use your voice for spoken word or creating sounds

• use your body to create percussive sounds

• move your body through the space

• use your own instruments (if applicable - not essential)

- Experience with movement/dance, singing/musical instruments is not required however will be welcomed.

- Please wear comfortable clothes, gender affirming or performance garments (such as chest binders and corsets) are welcome.
