About this Event

Andy Campbell and Amelia Jones, co-editors of the catalogue for Queer Communion: Ron Athey, will discuss the logic of the catalogue as it relates to the exhibition, as well as addressing their recent single authored books on related themes. Campbell’s Bound Together: Leather, Sex, Archives, and Contemporary Art (Manchester University Press 2020) explores histories of gay and lesbian leather communities through archives and art, while Jones’s In Between Subjects: A Critical Genealogy of Queer Performance (Routledge 2021) traces as history of art and theory relating to queer communities and performance. Archives and performance are also key elements to their study of Athey and his queer communities in the exhibition catalogue, and Lisa Teasley—contributor to the catalogue, Athey friend and collaborator, as well as novelist, editor, and painter—adds her perspective by moderating the conversation.

In-person with limited space. RSVP required.

The event will also be live-streamed.

Amelia Jones is Robert A. Day Professor and Vice Dean of Academics and Research in Roski School of Art & Design, USC. In addition to her curation of the Athey show and co-editing of the catalogue, her ecent publications include Seeing Differently: A History and Theory of Identification and the Visual Arts (2012); Otherwise: Imagining Queer Feminist Art Histories, co-edited with Erin Silver (2016).
