About this Event

Listen as our panel of queer writers speak about their work and the experience of sharing queer life stories in print, including award-winning author Fiona Kelly McGregor (Iris, 2022) and newly-published author Erin Riley (A Real Piece of Work, 2023). This talk will be moderated by host Ce Benedict (ABC Radio).

Evening refreshments will be provided.

About the authors

Fiona Kelly McGregor has published eight books, most recently the novel Iris, nominated for many awards including the Miles Franklin and NSW Premier's Awards, the ALS Gold Medal and the Stella Prize. McGregor is also known for a large repertoire of performance art and event curation, and writes for The Saturday Paper, Sydney Review of Books, Art Link, Art Monthly and more. When in Sydney, McGregor lives and works on Gadigal country.

By day, Erin Riley is a social worker, having spent most of the last decade working alongside marginalised populations in community aged care in and around Sydney. By night, Erin’s a skivvy-wearer, a dedicated reader, wrestling fan, swimmer of laps and a lover of routine. They were a Penguin Random House Australia Write It fellow in 2021, and have been published in K*ll Your Darlings, Bent Street and various corners of the internet. Erin lives in Sydney with their partner and Remy the dog.

Ce Benedict started their career at the BBC. After working in Radio Drama, they presented and produced NB: My Non-Binary Life, a podcast tracing the complexities and ecstasies of exploring one’s gender identity. Based on Gadigal Land, they love making a show that holds brand new Aussie hip hop next to thousand year old German hymns and treats them with the same enthusiasm and reverence.
