Her sifu (a Cantonese word meaning both "master" and "teacher" in a martial arts context) is Dr. Richard Dinsmore, and his sifu was Jimmy H. Woo, the man who brought the art from the Guangdong province of China. Lynn, her wife, is a 2nd degree black belt in the art and instructs as well.
"As members of our marginalized community, we believe that we all grow stronger through mutual aid, bringing our particular set of skills to the table, and doing our part. Kung Fu San Soo is a wonderful path of empowerment and self-growth, and we are thrilled at the possibility of providing this training.Kung Fu San Soo is singular among martial arts in that there is no competition and there is no gender. In training, we practice with each other slowly and in-turn, mindful that our training partner's health is preserved. This practice is called "working out" and allows us to learn how to take blows as well as deliver them. When used as intended, in the form perfected over centuries, the art is an instrument of survival in life or death situations." - Kate Ashworth
"The art of Kung Fu San Soo lies not in victory or defeat, but in the building of human character." Jimmy H. Woo, Grandmaster.
