Class dates: Sept. 22, 29th, Oct 6, 13, 20, 27th, Nov. 3, 10, 17th Performance on the 18thThe Queer Icons Ensemble is a multi instrumental ensemble drawing on the rich history of LGBT+ music. From Cole Porter to Chappell Roan, we will adapt and perform a wide range of songs while also learning about the history and societal impact of artists from the Queer Canon. The ensemble aims to be a safe, welcoming space to singers and instrumentalists of all types and abilities. Whether you are a member of the LGBT+ community, or you just want to learn more about this unique cultural legacy - come slay with us!
Members should have basic proficiency on their instruments, both reading and ear based musicians will be welcome.
About the teacher:
Perry is a musician, teacher and composer originally from Centreville, VA. They grew up inspired by a wide variety of music, from Motown and Musical Theater to Funk, Metal and Jazz. As an active performer, Perry draws on these diverse influences and their eclectic musical experiences in everything they do. You may have recently heard them playing guitar for various musicals around the area, at institutions like Olney Theater Center, The Kennedy Center, Constellation Theater, Signature Theater, and more. They just moved to Takoma Park after completing an 8 month national tour with the musical Dear Evan Hansen, and are excited to get to know the community through music!
