About this Event

Close out pride month with a bang! Explore California's native plants and ecosystems through the lens of queer ecology: the study of everything in nature that subverts our western cultural expectations about how the natural world "should" work.

"Queer" simply means odd, but based on whose cultural norms? Amazingly, nature does not subscribe to any particular culture, it simply exists as a beautifully diverse tapestry of ways to survive and thrive, expressing itself in a myriad of unique forms and relationships. From the symbolism behind a butterfly's metamorphosis to plants with dual-gender parts.

This seminar consists of an easy hike through the TPF grounds. In the spirit of fostering a safe space for all, we encourage participants to wear festive gear in whatever colors, flags, regalia, or outward expression you identify with. Afterwards, guests are welcome to stay for an optional gathering in celebration of nature and the LGBTQIA+ community with likeminded friends to debrief on everything we've learned.

Complimentary refreshments, light snacks, and treats will be provided post-hike in a low pressure, convivial atmosphere.(Please be aware this is strictly a 21+ event)
