About this Event
Queensland Queers returns to the Queensland Museum for a kiki.
Join us for a cheeky, semi-facilitated museum walk-through in the company of queers, creatives, culture-lovers, and curious-kittys.
Whats on: Queensland Queers and MELT are coming together to take you through Make a Scene: Fashioning Queer Identity and Club Culture in the 90s — a bold new exhibition at the Queensland Museum, presented in honour of the 35th anniversary of decriminalisation in Queensland.
- Meet & Greet: We kick things off in the foyer of the Queensland Museum. Gather and get to know your fellow curious Queers.
- Exhibition: Expect expressive fashion, club-culture relics, soundscapes, and stories drawn from Brisbane’s vibrant underground nightclub and party scene — including work by iconic local labels Hairy Dog and Glamourpussy.
Together, we’ll explore the fashion icons, fearless youth, and cultural mischief-makers who shaped Brisbane’s queer history. We’ll move slowly through the space, connecting with the work, each other, and the legacies of those who made the scene before us.
Queensland Queers is a safe, sexy haven where we celebrate the art of queer life, culture, and community together in the city's third spaces. We overtly support freedom of expression, kind open hearts and generous spirits.
Come as you are, explore your edges and collect new people to enjoy this beautiful queer life with!
