About this Event

Immerse yourself in the world of Shakespeare at the Westside Shakespeare Festival, then follow your beautiful day with an amazing feast with Queen Elizabeth I and the Bard! RAIN OR SHINE!

The Queen’s Feast is an interactive dining experience where guests can feel a part of a traditional Renaissance feast! Throughout the dinner, courses will be presented theatrically and accompanied by a traditional madrigal song performed by a quartet of singers. Queen Elizabeth I and her court will also be announced with great flourish, as well as special guests like William Shakespeare and his King's men! The Queen, of course, wants entertainment with her meal, so Master Shakespeare will recite some of his latest sonnets, a harpist will strum away beautiful music of the time, and other exciting acts will take place for the pleasure of the court.

Dressing of the time period (1592)  is requested but not required. In the spirit of the gala, attendees are recommended to purchase small wooden coins at the start of the gala (pence/pounds) to reward and bribe actors during the show. An Elizabethan penny is worth $1, a shilling is worth $5, and a pound is $10.

Please note: this event will be socially distanced per CDC and state guidelines on the day of the event (see FAQ). As COVID-19 levels change from day to day, we cannot specify exactly how you will be seated at this time if you do not purchase a table. We will provide this information to you within three days of the event. The event will move forward in the most responsible way possible.

FAQs

I'm not seeing much about COVID-19 precautions. What would you do to keep everyone safe?

We will indeed follow CDC guidelines and comply with the requirements of the City of Beaverton. Naturally these rules MAY not be in effect on the night of our feast, BUT for now, here are the rules:

a. Attendance is limited to the maximum capacity permitted in Washington County, currently set at 50 (moderate risk)

b. Clear signs that list COVID-19 symptoms will be posted, and our performers, contractors, volunteers, and attendees with symptoms are asked to stay or go home. Signs will include information listing who to contact in case you need assistance.

c. We will ensure there is at least six (6) feet of physical distance between parties during the dinner

d. Masks, face shields, or face coverings as of right now are required of every person in attendance

e. We will prohibit people in different parties from crowding in any area of our event.

f. We will assign a physical distancing monitor during our event to ensure compliance with all distancing requirements.

THAT SAID... now the fun stuff!

I've never been to something like this before. What should I expect?

Upon arrival, you be welcomed as a new member of the Queen's Court with full royal fanfare. Find yourself mingling with actors, musicians, and dancers, have a few pre-feast snacks, fill your souvenir cup. Her royal highness Queen Elizabeth I will arrive in fashionably late form and address the Court. Shortly thereafter, you will be seated at your reserved place and await the courses. Madrigal singers and dancers will perform between and during food courses. The Queen will approve food courses as they arrive and are then served to the Court. At the end of the meal, the players from The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) will address the Court. Court members will then be seated in Grey's Inn, in front of the Elephant Pub at the Westside Shakespeare Festival, where Court members will watch a hilarious comedy performed by only three actors.

How long is the play?

About two hours with a 15 minute intermission. Expect to be done around 9:30pm.

What if I have any dietary requests?

You may make all dietary requests in the registration process. We will do our best to accommodate you.

What are my beverage options?

A traditional Tudor feast is served wine, cider, and beer because water was usually contaminated.

Will there be water available if I don't want wine, beer or cider?

Yes, but you will need to bribe a drunken page a penny to obtain a bottle, or make your way into the Beaverton Library to hit a drinking fountain.

Are there refills on beverages?

If you bribe one of the Queen's servants with a penny, s/he will refill your mug with water. Give 'em a pound and they'll retrieve you a beer, wine or meade.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: The Beaverton Public Library is accessible by TriMet via bus or train. The Beaverton Transit Center is .4 of a mile directly north of the library. TriMet busses 76 and 78 drive by the library on SW Hall St., and busses 52 and 54 travel east-west on Beaverton Hillsdale Highway/Farmington, which is approximately 4 blocks north of the library space.

PARKING: Do NOT park in the library lot. Please find parking along SW 5th or side streets and walk to the lawn.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes. Please bring your ticket with you to the event.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

We would appreciate your notifying us if you plan to give your reservation to another person. Placeholders for the feast will be generated ahead of the event with guest names.
