Opened in 1785 as the Phoenix Lodge of Freemasons, this Masonic temple boasts the title of being the oldest purpose built Masonic temple in the world.Located in one of the oldest parts of Sunderland, this purpose built lodge has seen many thousands of members meet and attend here over the centuries, and it still contains the original records that date back nearly 250 years.
