Quantum x Finance Scotland: Rules of Engagement

One of the most promising sectors for quantum technology industry translation is the financial sector. In Scotland, we are fortunate to have very mature ecosystems in both areas, however there is much potential in bringing these ecosystems closer together to ensure that Scotland is at the forefront of quantum technology and financial industry collaboration. In this project, the Financial Regulation Innovation Lab (FRIL) will partner with the Alliance for Research Challenge in Quantum Technologies (Quantum ARC) and Technology Scotland in order to explore and catalyse the opportunities present now and in the near-future between quantum computing and the finance sector.

'Rules of Engagement', with a focus on the future of security in finance.

In this expert workshop hosted at the University of Glasgow, researchers, industry players (from startups to multinational corporates), and ecosystem stakeholders are invited to come together to discuss the challenges and opportunities that arise when it comes to envisioning, funding and successfully undertaking industrial research projects in the quantum and finance intersection. We'll discuss how to fund these kinds of projects, what the limitations are regarding data and security, what kinds of industry challenges are appropriate for research projects, how academic and industry cultures can work together, and plenty more. We'll hear from those who have undertaken projects, those in the midst of planning, and those at the beginning of their quantum x finance journeys.

We will mainly be focusing on quantum finance opportunities and projects in the quantum-safe encryption, security and regulatory context, due to the arguably more near-term nature of these concerns in the financial sector, and based on feedback from the previous workshop we held in the summer.

The aim of the workshop is to contribute to a report outlining the challenges, opportunities and need for institutional/governmental support when it comes to 'making applied research happen' in the quantum x finance space.
