Ride from Elstro Plaza on the City Bike Loop westward down into the Whitewater Gorge. Turning off South 1st street in the Starr Gennett parking lot we’ll roll onto the Gorge Trail. We’ll bike under the Lamar Lundy Memorial Bridge and also the Old National Road Bridge. We’ll pay respects to the Veterans Park as we ride up the Connector Trail getting a bird’s eye view of the Viet Nam era Huey helicopter and Navy Fighter plane displays.
We’ll merge onto the popular Cardinal Greenway rail-to-trail. Our wheels will be crossing over roads and river 50’ high in air overlooking Bridge Ave, and Sim-Hogin Parkway.
The turnaround destination routes us onto Waterfall Road between Springwood lake and Thistlewaight Falls as we’ll climb to Quaker Hill and its namesake conference and theology center.
Turning around, we’ll view the Falls and bike along Springwood Lake shoreline and ride back to the park chapel built where the old conservation club used to be. We’ll take a paved uphill swithback and merge back on the Cardinal Greenway.
We’ll head back to Elstro Plaza origin via Depot District and Bike Loop.
Ride is about 8 miles. There are 3 inclines that will need geared bikes.
Remember the social hour starts at 9:30 with coffee, tea and cookies for 15+ riders
