QCC PERFORMANCE: The Golden Rez Dog - Marcus Merasty

The Golden Rez Dog is about life on the reserve, ancestral knowledge, and decolonization, told through a non-linear, non narrative movement performance.
The Old Rez Dog refers to a poem about a dog living on a Native American reservation, drawing on themes of resilience, community, and the unique bond between humans and animals in that setting. The term rez dog itself often carries connotations of a dog living on a reservation, symbolizing life and culture there.
This event will happen in-person at Central Library, Dunlop Art Gallery (2311 12th Avenue).
Marcus Merasty is an independent multidisciplinary artist with ancestral roots from Wapâwikoscikanihk, Pelican Narrows, Saskatchewan and of Asinîskâwitiniwak, Rocky Cree, heritage.
He completed the Professional Program at the School of Contemporary Dancers in Winnipeg, MB, in 2021.
A past artist-in-residence at New Dance Horizons (NDH) in Regina, SK, Marcus’ passion lies in exploring Indigenous contemporary dance performance and creation. In 2024 their work was presented at the Remain Modern (Saskatoon, SK) and at NDH’s Stream of Dance Festival (Regina, SK). Recently Marcus has worked as an interpreter for The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, The Globe Theatre, and NDH/Rouge-gorge. He regularly teaches jigging and square-dancing as he believes social and cultural dance forms are an integral part of building a vibrant community.
