Our guest speaker this week is former Deputy Director of Investigations at the National Crime Agency, Matt Horne. Matt has had a massive impact on National and International Policing as well as National Security. Matt originally served with Avon and Somerset Police before moving on to a government law enforcement role at the Serious Organised Crime Agency. He later became Deputy Director of Investigations at the National Crime Agency, and has since retired from public service, now working in the private tech sector.
Matt has extensive experience in the field of Serious Organised Crime operating at the national and international level. His recent leadership responsibilities included Professional Standards and Anti-Corruption; Security; Complex Financial Crime; Technical Surveillance; Chair of the Five Eyes Law Enforcement Operational Technology Working Group; and Authorising Officer for Undercover Operations.
As a Strategic Firearms Commander he led the highest risk NCA operations involving threats to life and armed criminals. Matt was also the UK Gold Commander for Operation VENETIC, which is the multi-agency national law-enforcement response to the exploitation and take down of the ENCROCHAT communications platform. This operation is widely acknowledged as the most complex, large-scale and successful disruption of organised crime in UK law enforcement history.
