About this Event
John Tibbets, Mass MoCA Manager of Visitor Experience, will lead the 11/10 History/Architecture Walk. He knows an extensive amount of North Adams history and architecture, especially along the church street/cherry street neighborhood where he lived for several years:
- The church street neighborhood once home to prominent citizens of north adams;
- The Houghton mansion is a well-known ghost hunter spot and has been in process of restoration of its exterior;
- The neighborhood boasts several architectural styles from Italianate, Shingle style, to arts and crafts/craftsman.
Join queer men from all over the region who enjoy walking together every week to get to know one another, get some easy exercise, and explore some of the region's most interesting landmarks. We walk rain or shine and encourage men who know the history, architecture, ecology, of the places we explore to join us to share what you know.
Many studies show that developing a regular walking practice can improve your strength, immune system, longevity, and mood, and measurably reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic pain. And if you walk regularly with other people, that habit will even more strongly improve your mood and reduce isolation, as well as help you build a better social network. As COVID, flu, RSV, & other upper respiratory illnesses spike this fall & winter, walking is a safe way to build social connections because it is almost impossible to become infected when moving outside.
Fall is probably the best time of year to hike and walk in the Berkshires because the autumn colors are spectacular and the weather is usually still mild, which is why we are pleased to invite you to these 3 Fall Hikes & 5 easy Fall Walks where you can get to know your dashing queer neighbors in their lovely sweaters and fleeces.
PLEASE HELP INCREASE THE DIVERSITY OF QUEER MEN WHO GET INVITED TO THESE ACTIVITIES by inviting at least 3 friends/acquaintances who might be interested and inviting them to join you at at least one of these walks – so they will know at least one person:
please join us at one of our Queer Men’s Coffee Klatches and then explore beautiful fall colors, architecture, & history at 5 of our region’s most iconic small towns:
- , 1st Saturdays, 12-1p
- , 2nd Sundays, 12-1pm
- , 2nd Sundays, 12-1pm
- , 3rd Sundays, 12-1pm
- , 4th Sundays, 12-1pm
DEEPER CONNECTIONS WITH MEN WHO SHARE YOUR INTERESTS: All of these activities are designed to help you connect with queer men who share some of your interests/values and want to build deeper connections AND create & sustain healthier habits as we get into the colder, darker, and more isolated part of the year.
: join us before the walk for our monthly Queer Men's Coffee Klatch @ Heart's Pace Tea House (North Adams), 10am-12pm. We depart from Heart's Pace Tea House for our walk & return there at the end of the walk. Please register separately for the Coffee Klatch so we can save enough tables for our group.
