Pylon Reenactment Society
“They say people change their cell structure every seven years, so I’ve totally regenerated several times since we started Pylon forty years ago,” says Vanessa Briscoe Hay, frontwoman for that iconic Athens band and now frontwoman for Pylon Reenactment Society. “Over the course of your life, you’re going to learn new things. Your mind is going to change and expand. I’m a lot older now, and I can’t be something I’m not anymore. Pylon is our guiding star, but we’re not Pylon. We’re Pylon Reenactment Society.”
It's easier to explain what Pylon Reenactment Society isn’t than what it actually is. It’s not a continuation or a reunion, because Vanessa is the only member in both groups. It’s neither a tribute act nor a cover band, although they do perform Pylon songs. Instead, this new band draws inspiration from that old band, taps into its motivating principles.
Pylon Reenactment Society’s album Magnet Factory organically grew out of jams and writing sessions over several years. As the album took shape, the lyrics peeled away at the layers of time and shared spaces that make up a life. A pair of unrecorded songs by Pylon were brought in to round out this collective unspoken theme. All the music was recorded by the current four members of the band (Vanessa Briscoe Hay, Jason NeSmith, Kay Stanton, Gregory Sanders) with a stellar vocal duet with the incomparable Kate Pierson of The B-52’s.
Pylon Reenactment Society are touring select cities in 2024 in support of the album.

It’s Snakes
Starting in early 2015, singer Hope Nicholls took tentative steps in the daunting shoes of Phil Collins and Levon Helms, attempting to keep the beat on drums while crooning. The former vocalist for 80’s college rock main-stays Fetchin Bones, 90’s pissed-off Sugarsmack and 2000’s secret Snagglepuss hit the skins with a vengeance and zero shites given. Aaron Pitkin added his signature riffage: It’s Snakes marked his return to guitar, a first since the ‘Bones epoch. Long time collaborator Darrin Gray (bass) and fellow member of Snagglepuss coached Nicholls on drumming and believed it just might work. Guitarist Greg Walsh believed as well and the dream was real.
Nicholls took the name It’s Snakes from a Lynda Barry comic strip that featured a nonchalant retail encounter with Medusa, legendary snake goddess and first female super
villain.
The eponymous first album was recorded over hot dogs and beers, July 4th weekend
2016, in Nashville’s legendary Sound Emporium Studio with Chris Shinn as producer. It’s Snakes II was released in summer of 2018, also recorded by Mr. Shinn. 2020 rolled around and the Snakes sent the Don Dixon recorded and produced LX into the universe just in time for the pandemic times! All three records show a range of influences and style that can that can be traced through decades of adoration of all genres, trash and treasure alike, a little Rolling Stones, a little Pylon, a little James Brown, a lot all their own. The 4th album, YES, came out in the spring of 2023. Fetchin’ Bones were inducted into the NC Music Hall of Fame in 2023.

Idle Acres
Idle Acres was formed by Howie Winkler (vx,guitars) Allen Griffin (drums,vx) and Joel Land (bass,vx) around 2019. They recorded their debut album Before The Credits (2024) starting in 2022 at Chase Park Transduction studios on the tail end of the pandemic. The songs serve as illustrations of 3 friends who enjoy making music together, but now consist of additional sonics courtesy of more friends.
