The wonderful Roughcast Theatre Company return to The Corn Hall in November with Pygmalion.A firm favourite with audiences, Pygmalion tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a lower-class girl who sells flowers, and an upper-class linguist named Professor Henry Higgins. The Professor makes a bet with his new friend Colonel Pickering that he can teach Eliza to be a ‘proper lady’, to pass her off as a Duchess and have her accepted into higher society.
But as Eliza undergoes a gruelling and often humiliating process of education, she begins to challenge Higgins' assumptions about class and gender, and in doing so, discovers her own strength and place in society. This funny, moving story was later transformed into the musical hit 'My Fair Lady'.
