Welcome to the world of hot sculpting!
About this Event

So you’ve driven yourself mad making a hundred cups, bud vases, and other wonky vessels. You’ve decided that your interests may lie more in the world of Hot Sculpting. You’ve made dozens of little sculptures and have dreams of compiling them, but (like me) you HATE glue. You’ve seen people use the oxygen/propane hot torch, but are too afraid to try it by yourself. How ever shall you elevate your artistry and bring your wildest sculptural dreams to life!? Never fear! It’s time to take everything you’ve learned so far, and Put It Together! In this course, we will first work together to learn some setups for basic solid geometric objects, how to design an object that balances aesthetics and strategic process before you enter the shop, and how to work in teams to shuttle parts out of the garage and to the bench in order to make multi-part, hot assembled sculptures.

What to Expect: With a demo session and garage assembly practice on Friday night, the goal of this course will be to maximize your work time through the weekend to fulfill the assignment of creating abstract sculptures composed of 5 - 10 individual simple geometric components. There will be little room for deviation from the assignment, but if you can make a convincing argument I maaaaaay be persuadable.

The hot shop is a loud studio, and can get quite warm. Glassblowing takes repetition and practice - expect failures along with successes. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.

Eligibility:  This class would be the most useful for folks who are a year and a half or more into their glassblowing journey, or have taken 2-3 classes already - one of which should be a sculpting/solid working class. That said, we will work with whatever you got!

Open to ages 14 and up.

Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.

This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.

3 Sessions: Friday, October 11th 6-9pm, Saturday October 12th & Sunday October 13th, 10am-6pm both days
