CALL FOR ENTRIESPutting the “ME” in Anime: Self-Portraits in Iconic Anime and Manga Styles

Ever imagine yourself as an anime character? Then this call for entries is tailor-made for you.
We are asking artists to create a self-portrait in your favorite anime/manga style + enter our exhibit: Putting the Me in Anime.
Whether you see yourself as Goku, Sailor Moon, or Luffy D. Monkey, this is your chance to step into the panel or onto the screen.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Each work must present a self-portrait executed in an anime or manga style. All mediums are welcome: painting, drawing, sculpting, digital, print, or mixed media. The work should reflect the stylistic influence of your favorite anime/manga.
ARTISTS: Open to all artists (18 years of age or older).
ENTRY PROCESS: All entries be submitted electronically by midnight, February 15, 2026. The electronic form can be found at: https://forms.gle/t1LGWBJYLYyYU3r18
Artwork may be 2- or 3-dimensional and done in any medium. Please note that you may be asked to provide display infrastructure (pedestal, monitor) for your work.
Each artist may submit one (1) entry.
This is a juried exhibition. If your entry is not selected, it by no means is a statement about the quality of your artwork. Jurors look at various criteria, including what will create a cohesive exhibit.
ENTRY FEE: $20
The entry fee is non-refundable. All entry fees will go toward awards, outreach projects, and exhibition expenses.
EXHIBIT SET-UP: Artists will be notified whether their entries have been accepted for the exhibition by January 15, 2026.
Dropoff/Take-in will be on Sunday, March 29 from 9 am to 5 pm or Monday March 30 from 9 am to 7 pm at Central Midtown, 1260 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama.
The exhibit will hang for the month of April. Pickup will be Friday, May 1 from 9 am to 7 pm or Saturday, May 2, from 9 am to 5 pm. If you need to make alternative arrangements for drop off or pick up of artwork, contact the exhibit coordinators ahead of time.
Any artwork not collected by May 15 will be assumed "abandoned by the artist”.
RECEPTION AND AWARDS: Entries will be judged by a qualified judge, and awards will be given for Best in Drawing, Best in Painting, and Best in 3-Dimension, and Best in Show.
Awards will be presented at the Opening Reception on Friday, April 10,2026, 5:00 – 9:00 pm.
Please note that Central Midtown will not retain a commission for any sales of your work. All sales will be between the artist and the purchaser.
In addition to awards, the reception will feature a cosplay contest and a Hall of Vendors.
