If red is the heart and blue is the brain, then purple is the balance between the two. That’s the philosophy behind Purple is the Color, the band from Vienna led by pianist Simon Raab. The band plays jazz with contemporary influences, without depending on digital shortcuts. The new album Epic contains compositions by all four band members. Purple is the Color is selected by Footpints, a European collaborative project that supports talented new professionals in the music sector.
Baritone saxophonist Giuseppe Doronzo prefers moving into unexplored territories. On his solo album Goya he explored the instrument’s rich vocabulary, from detailed and abstract to grandiose and captivating. In his new Amsterdam-based trio he combines his contemporary classical background with jazz and music from all over the world. Guitarist Andy Moore, band member of The Ex, and drummer Frank Rosaly are mainstays in the Amsterdam improvised music scene.
