Our first Puppy Hunt is on this Sunday, 23rd February! Located at Green Road, Dairy Flat.
Parking at Silverdale Pony Club grounds. Keep an eye out for the hunt sign.
We would love EVERYBODY to come.
You don’t have to be a member to join us.
Please call the information and cancellation line, 0832 99820, before each Hunt (updated the day prior to the hunt).
Hunt Attire:
No dress code for this Puppy Hunt (but please do NOT wear a red shirt).
Please ensure you are wearing clothing appropriate for riding i.e, long sleeves, breeches, safe helmet and riding boots.
Horses must be in suitable bridle, saddle also, but leave their boots at home, as they become a hazard within the terrain we cover, specifically jumping spars.
How the day runs:
9:00am onwards – plan to arrive at the farm. Unload your horse, put your saddle on and give your horse a hay bag. Please don’t arrive earlier than 9:00am, you may end up at a locked gate without anybody there.
Visitors pay your capping fee and sign the indemnity form (Hunt Committee members will have a table set up).
9:45am - we start to gather around the committee table for the Master‘s brief.
10:00am Master‘s brief - this is where you will be told where we are riding, the type of terrain and any health and safety hazards to look out for. It’s important that all riders and followers attend this briefing.
10:15am - go back to your truck or float, tighten the girth and put your bridle on, put your helmet on and mount up in preparation for the hounds being released from their truck, it’s time to Hunt.
10:30am - Hounds move off
We usually walk from the carpark followed by a warm up further into the farm for about 10 minutes whilst the first drag run is being laid. When you hear the hounds making music you know they have picked up the scent and off we go.
We are usually back at our trucks/floats around 1.00pm and it is customary for the whole field to follow the Huntsman back to the truck and wait for them to dismount and put the hounds away and this is when we say thank you.
You then head back to your truck/float to untack and wash down your horse.
Hunt Breakfast:
Please bring a plate to share for the Hunt Breakfast and grab your own drinks.
Costs:
We would love more members joining the Hunt. Our annual fee is only $475 per adult and $275 for juniors! Monthly payments of $39.58 (adults) or $22.92 (juniors) are also available.
Renew your membership or join here - https://forms.gle/9foz4aNs2EiPLTkV7
For Cappers:
If you are a paid up member of another hunt and have paid your NZHA levy, the cost for the day is just $35 for all other adults $65 and children $35 (you can cap as many times as you like, but only your first 2 caps will count towards your membership fee).
Other important information:
Children under 15 years must be supervised by an adult.
To reduce the risk of spreading mycoplasma bovis, it is important when coming onto the farmer’s property that all trucks, floats and vehicles are clean…especially the wheel arches and the horse box and all horse poo is taken away. Please make sure your boots are clean and your horses hooves are picked out before you arrive.
Please notice that all Hunt properties are non smoking.
*We are privileged guests of our landowners and farmers, at all Hunts, so please respect Hunt etiquette*
We are looking forward to seeing you all there. Please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself to our friendly committee members
- Happy Hunting 🐎
