“The Goat in the Chili Patch” Rick Strot and Allen Reeves Ware, Ware House Puppets, Waco, TX
The Ware House Puppets present “The Goat in the Chili Patch,” a Mexican Folktale, retold by Rick Strot, and developed for the puppet stage by Rick Strot and Allen Reeves Ware. Poor little Pepe has a problem; a mean goat has invaded his Mamacita’s chili patch and will not leave. See what hilarity ensues as Pepe enlists the help of his barnyard friends to chase away the mean goat. In the end, Pepe learns a lesson about judging someone on appearances.

About the Artists: Allen Reeves Ware holds Doctorate and Master’s degrees from Baylor University with a focus on educational theatre and puppetry. Dr. Ware created the Ware House Puppets with fellow educator and friend Rick Strot, a School of Education Senior Lecturer at Baylor University. Both gentlemen are members of The Puppeteers of America (PoA), and active with PoA’s Puppetry in Education and Therapy, for which Dr. Ware serves as a committee member. Together they entertain children and families with fun stories that carry simple but important lessons. Strot and Ware bring decades of puppetry experience to The Ware House Puppets, and they are pleased to return to the show that began their creative partnership as they present “The Goat in the Chili Patch.”

Karen Konnerth with her Calliope Puppets invites children and adults on a journey down the Mississippi River in an original tall tale, “Calliope Kate and the Voice of the River” (now available in book form from Pelican Publishing). Accompany fearless Kate on her parents’ shanty boat as she straightens out the winding river, rides a giant catfish, and finally battles a hurricane with the musical instrument of her dreams - the loud and cacophonous steamboat calliope! Then, as Kate heads off up the river, her Ma and Pa join forces to tell a comical fishing story from the Brothers Grimm.
About the Artist: Karen is artistic director of world traveling Calliope Puppets, presenting thoughtfully interactive puppet theater for forty years for children, families, and art lovers of all ages featuring handmade puppets in a wide variety of techniques. She is also an award-winning arts integration specialist, with over thirty years’ experience developing and implementing arts integrated (puppetry, creative writing, visual art) curriculum in elementary school classrooms and now sharing this experience with teachers through participatory workshops on strategies to engage students and deepen learning across the curriculum, using simple and easily available materials.
