About this Event
What if making Shakespeare cheaper, faster, and easier to produce also made it more
dynamic and engaging for both actors and audiences?
What if you didn’t have to wait around for someone with a graduate degree and a
six-figure salary to cast you in your dream role and tell you how to play it?
What if you could cross-train all your Shakespeare skills at once? From dramaturgy to
performance to producing and directing?
Elsewhere Shakespeare is a punk band masquerading as a theatre company. They
believe in demystifying all aspects of Shakespearean theatre, trying to create
beginner-friendly, actionable tools to help artists produce and perform Shakespeare.
In this workshop Mac MacDaniel, one of the founders of Elsewhere Shakespeare, will
demonstrate the methodology behind what they call “punk Shakespeare,” including:
- How the punk scene overlaps with Shakespeare’s historic staging practices.
- How to cut scripts to make shows easier to produce and more fun to see.
- Easy text work tips to help you look and sound like a seasoned Shakespeare pro
- even if you’ve never done any Shakespeare.
- Ensemble-building exercises to help you and your scene partners perform better
- together.
- How to produce your own Shakespeare shows with a bunch of clueless amateurs
- and no budget.
