Benny Lynch. Undisputed World Flyweight Boxing Champion. A Gorbals boy who fought his way from the slums to sporting stardom…only to see his “title” challenged by his own personal demons, via his battle with the bottle. Undisputed alcoholic? A legend, in and out of the ring.
Johnny Ramensky. A Glenboig son, whose early life in the Gorbals slums would bring him notoriety as a consummate criminal, a famed “safe blower”. The Harry Houdini of the Scottish prison service…escaping their walls, countless times…yet whose talents as a safe blower were recruited by Churchill’s War Cabinet and would see him crack open the Nazi safes and war chests, revealing their secrets and treasures.
Man, or myth? Hero or hypocrite?
This explosive drama offers up a poignant and bittersweet insight into the lives and loves of these two “legends” as they exchange blows one night, in a chance encounter at the war’s end…as theirs begin.
“A fascinating and powerful insight into two heroes. Powerful performances.” The Scotsman
“Intriguing drama about two anti-heroes. This left me wanting more” Edinburgh Fringe Review
