About this Event
Journey with us from the Beecroft Art Gallery into the darkest corners of space to discover the phenomena of 'pulsars', as part of Spring Space Day.
What does a pulsar have in common with a figure skater? Why did astronomers initially mistake these bizarre objects for alien life? How are physicists using the cosmos' most accurate clocks to learn more about the early Universe? In this talk we will dive into the fascinating history leading to the discovery of pulsars, and get to grips with some of the science behind these ultra fast spinning neutron stars.
This talk is accessible for ages 10+. Older children and adults will enjoy this talk, children younger than 10 are welcome, but some may struggle with understanding some of the content.
Please note that tickets are per person attending the show, not per child. Every attendee will need a ticket.
Robert Clemenson is a theoretical physics researcher and lecturer based at the University of Sussex and Royal Holloway, University of London. His research focusses on models of the Universe involving extra spatial dimensions, and dark matter.
