About this Event
‘PULL UP’ - A creative networking event presented by the Black Arts & Culture Council (BACC). Our event is geared towards Black creatives, innovators, and visionaries in Calgary with the purpose of increasing our community’s access to information that can benefit their professional development and artistic practice.
We invite you to join us to get inspired, hear about some of the amazing work being done by Calgary artists, exchange ideas, enjoy good food and possibly find new collaborators for future projects.
This event offers our guests the opportunity to:
- Network with other Black artists, creatives, innovators, entrepreneurs, and visionaries.
- Meet organizations and businesses looking to support Black visionaries in Calgary.
- Gain relevant information from the keynote address by Carianne Shakes, Granting officer from the Canada Council for the Arts, as she answers questions pertaining to their granting streams, funding and opportunities.
- Short film showcase featuring Gbohunmi, Novio, Not A Political Playground Y’all (NAPPY) and Woezo Africa Music & Dance Theatre Inc.
- Participate in important conversations surrounding the history and future of Black Arts in Calgary by participating in a survey created by the BACC.
- Enjoy performances from local artists Robymisterdrums, Dallas Hayes-Sparks, Perpetual “Perpie” Awele Atife, K-Riz, Tiffany Forrester, Ethan Cybril and KThaChosen.
- Groove to DJ Ange and indulge in the African and Caribbean cuisine and beverages.
This event is a partnerships with the organizations of the Black Arts & Culture Council including; Woezo Africa Music & Dance Theatre Inc., Alcove Centre for The Arts, The Walker Foundation, Icarus Sound Entertainment Inc., Wood Buffalo Strategy Group, RobyMisterDrums Enterprise Inc., Exposed Creatives Society and Alberta Black Stakeholders for Social Economy Collaborative (ABSSEC).
