ПУК! и Гьоте-институт България ви канят на поп-ъп изложба с книгите, номинирани за Dummy Award, една от най-важните международни награди за непубликувани фотокниги, която се организира ежегодно от The PhotoBookMuseum в Кьолн. Специални гости на събитието ще бъдат двама от основателите на музея – Маркус Шаден и Фредерик Лезми.
Всяка година The PhotoBookMuseum кани фотографи от целия свят да участват в конкурса. През 2025 г., измежду 400-те кандидатури, журито избра 50 книги, които ще бъдат представени в пътуваща изложба. Тази година София ще бъде нейната първата спирка, преди да бъде показана в още 12 града, между които Барселона, Милано, Джакарта, Хонгконг и Буенос Айрес. На всяко място посетителите ще могат да гласуват за любимите си книги. По традиция книгата, която спечели Dummy Award, се издава от The PhotoBookMuseum в сътрудничество с истанбулската печатница за фотокниги MAS Matbaa.
Наградата, която до 2023 г. е известна като Kassel Dummy Award, среща публиката с т.нар. dummy – работен макет на неиздадена книга, концептуализирана от автора, без издателска намеса. Някои от артистите избират традиционни похвати, а други залагат на книги-обекти и експериментални форми.
На 3 април, по време на откриването, Фредерик Лезми ще направи тур в изложбата с номинираните книги и ще обяви победителите в миналогодишното издание на конкурса. В събота, 5 април, ви каним на лекция на другия ни гост Маркус Шаден, едно от най-уважаваните имена в света на фотокнигите и директор на Тhe PhotoBookMuseum. В нея той ще разкаже за историята на музея и някои от най-значимите му инициативи, подчертавайки значимостта на фотокнигата в съвременната художествена и фотографска практика.
Щастливи сме, че между книгите, номинирани за Dummy Award тази година, е The Setlist Collection на колектива Blood Becomes Water, която беше представена на последното ни събитие. Това е втората българска фотокнига, попаднала в краткия списък на наградата след Hello and Welcome to Paris на Никола Михов през 2016 г.
Освен тазгодишните номинации за Dummy Award 2025, в изложбата в София ексклузивно са включени и вече издадените книги на всички победители в конкурса между 2010 и 2023 г.
По време на събитието в книжарницата на ПУК! ще намерите селекция от издания, свързани с The PhotoBookMuseum. Между тях са фотокнигите, спечелили наградата Dummy Award през последните четири години, както и The Catalogue Box – каталогът на откриващата изложба на The PhotoBookMuseum през 2014 г. На PUK! #20 ще можете да се сдобиете с безплатни копия от каталозите на последните две издания на Dummy Award и различни броеве на Тhe Photobook Review, публикация на фондация Aperture, в чийто редакторски екип е Маркус Шаден.

ЗА PHOTOBOOKMUSEUM:
PhotoBookMuseum е основан през 2014 г. в Кьолн като неправителствена организация, която популяризира фотокнигата като значима фотографска медия. Музеят функционира като публична платформа, която организира изложби и събития, ангажирани с изследването и образованието в сферата на фотокнигите.
В ролята си на „мобилен“ музей с колекция от 35 000 фотокниги The PhotoBookMuseum прилага иновативни изложбени стратегии и осъществява международни кураторски партньорства далеч извън рамките на традиционните музеи. Към момента това е единственият музей в света, посветен изцяло на фотокнигите. Ключова част от него е The Box – изложбено пространство в Кьолн с размери 30 кв.м. През есента на 2025 г. The PhotoBookMuseum ще представи изложбата Grand Hotel Parr в Neues Museum в Нюрнберг, посветена на книгите на Мартин Пар.

ЗА МАРКУС ШАДЕН:
Маркус Шаден (р. 1965 г.) е издател, книжар, куратор и директор на The PhotoBookMuseum в Кьолн. През 1995 г. основава легендарното издателство и книжарница за фотокниги Schaden.com. Публикува над 100 фотокниги и организира повече от 250 изложби, събития и подписвания на книги. През 2009 г. Печели международната награда за дизайн Red Dot Design Award.
Той е бивш вицепрезидент на German Society for Photography (DGPh) и член на редакционния екип на списание Foam. Неговата експертиза в областта на фотокнигата е високо ценена, участва в журитата на фотографски фестивали в Арл, Париж, Краков, Брага, Амстердам, Касел и Лос Анджелис. Маркус Шаден разработва получилия световно признание изложбен формат PhotoBookStudies, който представя ключови фотокниги. Бил е лектор и водещ на работилници от програмата PhotoBookMasterclasses в Амстердам, Джакарта, Арл и Кьолн, организирана от Schaden.com и Lichtblick School Cologne в сътрудничество с Гьоте-институт.

ЗА ФРЕДЕРИК ЛЕЗМИ:
Фредерик Лезми (р. 1978 г.) е фотограф, артистичен директор, графичен дизайнер и съосновател на The PhotoBookMuseum в Кьолн. Израства в Дакар, Женева и Шварцвалд, а между 2010 и 2015 г. живее в Истанбул. Завършва визуална комуникация с фокус документална фотография и дизайн на книги в Folkwang Universität der Künste в Есен и в Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts в Бейрут. Първата му книга Beyond Borders, публикувана от Schaden.com през 2009 г., е включена в книгата The Photobook: A History (Vol. 3) на Мартин Пар и Джери Баджър.
Лезми е лектор по фотография и фотокниги в DHBW Ravensburg, Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts и в Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Като главен куратор на ThePhotoBookMuseum той отговаря за изложбите, графичното им оформление и за организирането на Dummy Award.

PUK! and Goethe-Institut Bulgaria invite you to a pop-up exhibition with the shortlisted books for one of the most important awards for unpublished photobooks – the Dummy Award, organised yearly by The PhotoBookMuseum in Cologne. We are happy to welcome two of the museum's founders as our special guests for the event – Markus Schaden and Frederic Lezmi.
Every year The PhotoBookMuseum invites photographers from all over the world to participate in the competition. In 2025 the jury picked 50 books out of near 400 entries to be exhibited worldwide. This year, Sofia will be the first stop of the exhibition. After that, the exhibition will travel to 12 more cities – Barcelona, Jakarta, Hong Kong and Buenos Aires among others. Visitors to each exhibition venue in every city will also have the chance to vote for their favourite books. The book that wins the The Dummy Award is produced and published by The PhotoBookMuseum in cooperation with the leading Turkish photobook printing and binding house MAS Matbaa from Istanbul.
The award formerly known as the Kassel Dummy Award until 2023, exposes audiences to dummy books directly from the artists, without filters or intervention, presenting a clear sense of their concepts, working methods and vision.
On April 3, during the opening, Frederic Lezmi will lead a tour of the exhibition with the nominated books and officially announce the winners of the previous edition of the award. Then, on Saturday, April 5, we invite you to a lecture by our other guest Markus Schaden, one of the most respected names in the photobook world and director of The PhotoBookMuseum. In it, he will talk about the museum’s history, its most significant projects, and the vital role of the photobook in contemporary artistic and photographic practice.
We are happy that among the books nominated for the Dummy Award this year is The Setlist Collection by Blood Becomes Water, which was presented during our last PUK! event. This is the second Bulgarian photobook to be shortlisted for the award, following Nikola Mihov's Hello and Welcome to Paris in 2016.
In addition to this year's Dummy Award 2025 nominees, the exhibition in Sofia will also exclusively feature the previously published books of all the winners between 2010 and 2023.
Throughout the event, a selection of publications related to The PhotoBookMuseum will be available at the PUK! pop-up bookstore. These include the past four years' Dummy Award-winning photobooks and The Catalogue Box, the catalogue from The PhotoBookMuseum’s inaugural 2014 exhibition. During PUK!#20, you can also pick up free copies of the last two award editions’ catalogues, along with various issues of The Photobook Review, published by the Aperture Foundation and featuring Markus Schaden as part of its editorial team.

About The PhotoBookMuseum:
The PhotoBookMuseum was founded in Cologne in 2014 as a non-profit organisation that aims to foster the photobook as a significant photographic medium. It serves as a public platform for collections, exhibitions and events and is committed to research and education on contemporary photobook culture.
Acting as a mobile museum, it uses innovative exhibition strategies and hosts international curatorial co-operations far away from the mainstream of traditional museums. So far, the PhotoBookMuseum is the only museum in the world that is exclusively dedicated to the medium of photobooks. One of the museum’s notable features is The Box, a 30m2 exhibition space located in Cologne as a window on their collection. About Markus Schaden:
Markus Schaden (b. 1965) is a bookseller, publisher, photobook-curator and director of The PhotoBookMuseum in Cologne. In 1995 he founded the publishing house and the legendary bookstore schaden.com specializing in photo books. There he published more than 100 photo books and organized more than 250 exhibitions, events and book signings. In 2009, he won the Red Dot Design Award, an international design prize.
His expertise about the photo book was requested by numerous international festivals, fairs and congresses. As a former Vice President of the German Society for Photography (DGPh) and member of the editorial board of the Foam Magazine, he was active in juries of the photo festivals in Arles, Paris, Krakow, Braga, Amsterdam, Kassel, Los Angeles. With the PhotoBookStudies, Markus Schaden and his team developed their own innovative exhibition format that has received worldwide attention. As an intermediary, Markus Schaden taught PhotoBookMasterclasses in Amsterdam, Jakarta, Arles and Cologne in cooperation with the Lichtblick School Cologne and the Goethe-Institute.

About Frederic Lezmi:
Frederic Lezmi (b. 1978) is a photographer, graphic designer and artistic director and founding member of Тhe PhotoBookMuseum in Cologne. He grew up in Dakar, Geneva and the Black Forest and lived in Istanbul from 2010 until 2015. He studied Visual Communication with a focus on documentary photography and book design at the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen and at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts in Beirut, Lebanon. His first book Beyond Borders published by Schaden.com in 2009 was included in The Photobook: A History (Vol. 3) by Martin Parr and Gerry Badger.
He is a lecturer in photography and photobooks at the DHBW Ravensburg, the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts and Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts. He is lead curator of The PhotoBookMuseum and is responsible for its exhibitions’ conceptualization and design as well as for the Dummy Award.
