Puccini's Tosca, is a drama of frightening power. The brilliant composer brings three main figures to life. Floria Tosca is a famous opera singer, deeply religious and spiritual, yet passionate and fatally jealous. Her lover is Mario Cavaradossi, a sensitive artist, madly in love with Tosca, who courageously tries to help a condemned political prisoner. Tosca and Cavaradossi are caught in the web of the evil Baron Scarpia, chief of the Roman police, and a power-crazy, sadistic killer. Scarpia is secretly in love with Tosca, and he is determined to possess her physically. The opera ends with the assassination of Cavaradossi, the murder of Scarpia at the hands of Tosca, and Tosca's suicide. Now that’s opera!
A fully staged traditional Italian production with beautiful sets and costumes, American soloists and an all American orchestra and chorus. English subtitles.
