Born in pre-Civil War Winchester and later an educator in Harrisonburg, George A. Newman wrote "A Miserable Revenge" in the 1870s, though it was not published until 2025. Set in 1840s Winchester, it is the earliest known Black-authored novel featuring white protagonists. This program features co-editors Mollie Godfrey and Brooks E.
